The department has recently completed a major revision of the Computer Science curriculum which you can view in the new bulletin entry for Computer Science.or by perusing the Academics section of this website.

This fall we are launching the new MA in Computer Science and IT Entrepreneurism program which has started accepting students. This innovative program extends our traditional MA in Computer Science with a 4 course sequence in Entrepreneurism in which the students develop prototype software for a new IT business and create a business plan to support their software.

This is also the second year of our MA in Computational Linguistics which has accepted 10 students for this Fall. The program will be offering several new graduate level courses in Computational Linguistics, many of which are open to the Computer Science students as well.

About the Computer Science Department

The Computer Science Department offers students the unique opportunity to explore the fundamentals of both theoretical and practical aspects of computing in preparation for creative jobs in the computer industry or higher education. In addition the curriculum provides a stimulating and useful preparation for a number of related fields such as law, medicine and economics.

Computer Science is by its nature interdisciplinary because much of the research in this field is driven by the numerous and diverse applications of computer technology. Accordingly, the department offers interdisciplinary courses within the department (such as Bioinformatics and Internet & Society) as well as providing Computer Science elective credit for a wide variety of courses offered in other departments. These range from Anthropology courses on Virtual Communities and Social Relations in Cyberspace, to Microelectronics Laboratory courses in Physics.
