Saturn Disk Mounter

Description: Saturn Disk Mounter lets a Mac mount a Saturn camcorder as a USB Mass Storage device, allowing for faster downloads than previously available on a Mac. Optionally installs a camcorder "auto-detect" daemon, which launches this application whenever a Saturn camcorder is plugged into a USB port. Designed to work with Saturn Video Archiver. Saturn Disk Mounter only works with now-obsolete versions of the Saturn camcorder (firmware 3.40.)
Since posting this page, the Flip Video and Flip Video Ultra camcorders have been released, making this software unnecessary.
Requirements: * Mac OS X 10.3.9+ (Earlier 10.3 releases may work but have not been tested.)
* A Saturn camcorder running firmware version 3.40.
* A modified USB cable is required to connect the camcorder to a USB port. (Try Make:Blog or i-hacked.)
* Growl (optional) is used if it is already installed.
Download: Download Saturn Disk Mounter now
version 0.92b, 21Mar2006 changelog
Installation: Double-click to unpack the archive, then move Saturn Disk Mounter.app to your Applications folder.
Configuration: 1) You will also be given the option to install the "Camcorder AutoDetect" daemon. This highly-recommended addition provides a simple installer (and uninstaller) for a system daemon that launches Saturn Disk Mounter whenever a Saturn camcorder is plugged in to a USB port.

2) If you plan to use this application in conjunction with Saturn Video Archiver (highly recommended), you should now download and install it.

3) Restart your computer after installing both applications.
Usage: If the AutoDetect feature is enabled, simply plug in your Saturn camcorder. The application will launch and you can "Mount Camcorder." If the AutoDetect feature is not enabled, double-click to launch, then mount.

Source: In releases starting with 0.92b, saturn Disk Mounter relies on koikoi's Xcode Dakota Tools alpha 2006.03.13 (source code zip.) This will be updated as newer versions are made available. In previous releases (0.91b and earlier), Saturn Disk Mounter included code derived from Ops and Ceres, which were released under the GNU General Public License. The modified ceres source code is still available for download.
