On April 24, 2005 Armenians across the world commemorated the 90th anniversary of the
Armenian Genocide. 90 years ago, in 1915, the crumbling Ottoman empire systematically
murdered some 1.5 million Armenians, in an effort to save itself through a nationalist
campaign of "purification." The modern state of Turkey was enabled through the
criminal acts of its Ottoman predecessor. Yet, to this day, no reparations have been
made, for Turkey refuses to recognize the Armenian Genocide. For 90 years, Turkey has
engaged in the most deceitful forms of denial and revisionism, in political as well as
academic circles. Within Turkey itself, denial is of course unnecessary -- younger
generations of Turks are simply not told about the bloodbath out of which their country
emerged.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar about the Armenian Genocide, I offer the following
links. Turkey wants desperately for the Armenian Genocide to be ignored and forgotten.
I submit that we cannot adequately address any crime against humanity without addressing them all.
