About the sysops office
The Brandeis Computer Science Systems Office is staffed by Christopher Allison and his student assistants, known as gurus. Any bugs on CS machines, big or small, should be reported to guru@cs.brandeis.edu.
The machines the Systems Office administers fall into four basic categories:
- Public Workstations - servers available via SSH to members of the department with CS accounts. Here is a complete list.
- Private Workstations - private computers used for a variety of purposes by faculty and staff within the department
- Infrastructure Servers - machines that perform important functions for workstations on the department network. These services include, but are not limited to, account management, configuration management, DNS, logging, and NFS.
The systems operations office (“sysops”) is responsible for:
- CS account management
- Managing, repairing, and updating the various servers, public and private
- Providing some tech support to CS faculty and staff
The sysops office is not responsible for:
- Helping you with your homework
